Freeman Moore opens used car lot

Freeman Moore Mazda has expanded its business by leasing a two-acre, preowned lot on Lincoln Road Extension to reach customers in the West U.S. 98 area, said dealer Vance Moore.
The dealership – that started two years ago at 211 Broadway Drive in Hattiesburg – opened Freeman Moore Used Car Super Center on July 15 at 4345 Lincoln Road Extension.
"We're just trying to get closer to west Hattiesburg and the Oak Grove area," Moore said. "Now customers won't have to come all the way into town."
Renee Moore, comptroller for Freeman Moore Mazda, said the dealership did not purchase uncoast Auto – the automotive group that previous leased the site.
The new preowned lot offers customers a variety of late-model, brand-name cars, trucksand sport utility vehicles ranging from $4,000 to $40,000.
"There's something for everyone," Moore said, adding the lot also features luxury vehicles.
Moore said the new lot does not offer automotive service at its location but uses the full service shop on Broadway Drive. That, he said, is a major advantage.
"A lot of used car lots don't have that," he said. "But we're a franchise dealer, and all our used vehicles are serviced at our parts and service facility."
Kenny Starita, general sales manager at the super center, agrees.
"I think people enjoy doing business with us because we have the main store on Broadway," he said. "We try to tie two lots together."
Starita said sales have been booming for the new location and its six employees.
"We sold 10 cars in the first 10 days we were opened," he said, adding the lot showcases about 40 vehicles. "That's pretty good since we don't have any signs up advertising."
Starita said he also thinks the fact customers can easily be approved – regardless of credit status – is bringing in business.
"Everybody's approved as long as they have a job," he said. "We've got 13 different banks working with us to get them approved and get them riding."
With such financing options available, Starita projects steady growth for the preowned lot – including an increase of "high line" vehicles such as Jaguars, Lexuses and Cadillacs.
"I think we will continue to grow within the area and how much growth we have affects how many cars we carry," he said. "But regardless we're just looking forward to being here and servicing the local area."
